Super Supply – Why supply only orders offer more opportunities

Here at Opticolour as well as our measure and fit service we also offer a supply-only service. This is perfect for customers who are happy to provide us with measurements and install their own bespoke glass splashback and do not require us to do the measuring and fitting for them. We can send glass panels to addresses throughout the UK, and we always include our specialist silicone fixing adhesive, free of charge so you can install your panel immediately.

How it works
We require the measurements of your panels to the nearest millimetre. You will not need to produce a template if your panel is a straightforward rectangle or square, however if you require cut-outs or shaping (for example for plug sockets or to fit under a curved extractor hood) then we would ask you to send a template ideally made from MDF. If the MDF template fits then you can rest assured that your glass will also fit! Alternatively you can make drawings and email these to us instead.

How to measure

  • Sizes should be presented in millimetres with the width and height clearly marked. Please remember that once the glass has been toughened it cannot be trimmed or filed, so it is important to get the measurements right first time.
  • If you make templates they should always have straight edges, unless you have included an intentional curve or cut-outs to accommodate fixtures and fittings. The glass will always be cut straight, and will not be scribed (contoured) into uneven, crooked or irregular walls, worktops or floors.
  • First check all worktops or shower trays with a spirit level. If this base surface is level you can move on to the next step. If it is not level this needs to be taken into account – we can then cut the glass out of square in order to keep the sides vertical. (It is particularly wise to keep the sides of glass panels vertical wherever panels butt against one another.) To provide us with the measurements we need, draw a horizontal line a few centimetres above the base surface along the entire length of the base, using your spirit level to ensure the line is level. You can then measure the height difference between the base and the line at each end to determine how far out of square the height is. It is important to do this or your ends will not be vertical!
  • Next do the same vertically at the ends (sides) to find out if and by how much the sides are out of square. You can then measure between your lines and add on for any off-squareness.
  • Do not measure too tightly – always leave a tiny gap around the edges to allow the panels to be installed smoothly and as a margin for error. The industry standards for glass cutting are + or –2mm; Opticolour endeavours to achieve +0mm or –0.5mm, but there can be a variation of up to 1mm between different tape measures!
  • Bear in mind at all times – particularly when measuring around right-angled corners – that few walls are really flat. The glass will sit on the part of the wall that sticks out furthest. Allow at least 8mm for the thickness of the glass and adhesive where panels are fitted at a right angle to each other. Please ensure that cut-outs for sockets or any other fittings are at least 25mm from the edge of the glass, or each other, unless they butt right up against one another.
  • We can cut an upside down “T” shape to avoid joins.

January 2021 Newsletter – New ways of working and installations of the month!

Happy New Year!

Although 2021 may not seem like it has got off to the best start, Team Opticolour are certain that unlike 2020, 2021 is going to be a year to remember for all the right reasons!
We have some fantastic projects we’re very lucky to be working on – our lips are sealed at the moment but keep your eyes peeled and ears ready for some exciting news to follow over the coming months.
In this month’s newsletter, we wanted to clarify how working at Opticolour has changed in reflection to the ongoing pandemic, and highlight some fabulous installations we have seen.

 

First, a little thank you!
We know the last 12 months have been awfully strange, but one thing that’s made things that little bit more normal for us are the amount of enquiries we are getting. We love hearing from our customers about how they’re getting on, knowing that you too are trying to do your best under current circumstances gives us that little bit of hope that with the support of everyone, we will get through this.

So thank you, whether it’s been an email, a phone call, or a mention on social media. It really does mean the world to us at Team Opticolour and makes it all the more enjoyable. In times of distance, it feels like we are closer than ever to our customers – long may that continue!

 

Current office opening hours
Whilst working at reduced capacity due to the Coronavirus pandemic, you may have noticed our office hours have changed slightly to reflect this.

Our new office hours are as follows:
Monday-Thursday: 9am – 4.30pm
Friday: 9am-2pm

Please rest assured any enquiries outside of these hours are treated with the upmost importance, we are pleased to announce we’re still responding to emails within 4 working hours – customer service still remains a top priority for us, setting us apart from competitors.
